"I'm an artist"

While researching for my next paper on movies, I thought to share with you a paper I wrote about two years ago. It regards the wonderful "The Artist" directed by Michel Hazanavicius. From the moment I watched the trailer for the first time I absolutely fell in love with it. And then it was my study "companion" in more than one occasion.

Literature and Movies: The Count of Monte Cristo

Hello, again! I had the idea of this blog almost two years ago, but somehow I couldn't follow the road I imagined at that moment.

Since then, however, movies have become a constant interest for me and I do have great plans for the future concerning film studies.

I actually consecrated almost the entire first half of this year to a study of the adaptations of The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. For over a month I watch and analyzed the movies (wow, they are so many), then I spend a few weeks to write my paper. The purpose of all this: to participate in a conference on film studies, in Istanbul. It all started when I read again Dumas' novel (although it was like for the first time), this time directly in French, and I discovered a completely different story of what is usually considered The Count of Monte Cristo - meaning a story of revenge. In my eyes, Edmond Dantès' story developed in a much deeper way and if I were to reduce it to an essential idea it would be a man's relation with God and his (subconscious) search for redemption.

For cinema, with love

I start this blog having in mind the place that cinema has in my life: I like watching movies and, as a child, I wanted to become an actress (although I was more inclined towards the theater), but lately I started to see cinema with other eyes. During my master in Intercultural Communication I used movies as examples to illustrate ideas in various fields, like gender studies, communication, history of culture, or as main subjects for my papers, including my final thesis, built around The Artist (2011). So, gradually, cinema became for me an interesting field of study, not in itself, but more from an interdisciplinary point of view.

What I want to share with you here are not the usual reviews one can find on blogs dedicated to cinema, but ideas, thoughts inspired by movies and as much as possible respecting the interdisciplinary line.

I am still not sure what movie should be the first to talk about, so have a little patience. In just few days you'll have something (interesting) to read.
